Plastic rigid sheets should have high barrier properties, high transparency, and mechanical strength that is not easy to crack. The hard plastic sheets commonly used in pharmaceutical blister packaging are mainly polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) and some composite materials. At present, the largest application is PVC hard film.
Rigid PVC sheet has good transparency and gloss. Polyvinyl chloride flakes used for pharmaceutical packaging have high hygienic requirements for resins, and non-toxic PVC resins, non-toxic modifiers and non-toxic heat stabilizers must be used. Since medicines are very sensitive to moisture and light penetration, plastic sheets are required to have good barrier properties against water vapor, light and odor. However, the barrier properties of the current use of polyvinyl chloride are not ideal, and polyvinylidene chloride, etc. will replace it.
Polyvinylidene chloride has very strong gas tightness, excellent moisture resistance, good oil, chemical and solvent resistance, especially for oxygen, water vapor, and carbon dioxide in the air. It has excellent barrier properties. Polyvinylidene chloride not only has good barrier properties to gases and odors, but also the material's sealing performance, impact strength, tensile strength and durability can meet the special requirements of pharmaceutical packaging.
The composite plastic rigid sheet used for the pharmaceutical blister packaging machine includes PVC/PVDC/PE, VDC/OPP/PE, PVC/PE, etc. For pharmaceutical packaging that requires barrier properties and light-proof properties, plastic sheets and aluminum foil composite materials can be used, such as PET/aluminum foil/PP, PET/aluminum foil/PE composite materials.
